"Monsters is the best monster movie of the millennium."
"AN INTELLIGENT SCI-FI FILM THAT IS ABSORBING, THRILLING AND ULTIMATELY MOVING. An impressively assured debut for Gareth Edwards that succeeds on pretty much every score. A clever and subtle blending of the best of District 9 and Cloverfield, with a believable love story thrown in for good measure."
"GRIPPING. A sci-fi nightmare similar in plot but more sophisticated, character-driven, and chillingly underplayed than both ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘District 9’."
"ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF THE YEAR."
"A MASTERPIECE. Heart-thumpingly real."
"VISUALLY SPECTACULAR. Director Edwards has created a dystopian landscape that’s so naturalistic, it’s uncanny. The film peaks with an alien mating dance of astonishing verisimilitude."
"EVERY IMAGE LOOKS LIKE MILLIONS OF BUCKS. The titular monsters are a strangely sublime piece of work."
"****1/2. Engaging storytelling amidst some of the most visually striking cinematography and visual f/x work I’ve experienced since 2006’s Children of Men."
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon reentry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures” ... Our story begins when a U.S. journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone to the safety of the U.S. border.
